Butterfly Fly Away Lyrics
“Cat’s in the cradle, the butterfly fly away” are two very sweet and beautiful songs from the album Butterfly Fly Away by The Isley Brothers. What makes this song so special is the simple fact that it has so much meaning for me; the memories it has brought with it, and how my little girls depend on me to keep things like this a secret…
When I first heard these words years ago, my immediate response was “what the hell are those words?” I mean the actual words themselves are so delicate and innocent, I thought that they must have been written for children, or at least for some children who have been terribly hurt in some way. When I finally found out that they were indeed written by a famous song writer, I was disappointed because all my childhood dreams of looking up at the sky and seeing butterflies had been crushed. My poor girl still looks up at the sky every night, afraid to sleep.
But then again, what exactly happened that brought me to this very page? Was it because I was looking for answers for the questions that had been haunting me since I was a little girl, and now that I am an adult, I can see the purpose. For instance, in one of the verses, it said something along the lines of “you’re combing and polished and pretty, you’re a lady”. All of us pretty ladies have combed and polished and pretty, so why couldn’t my little girls’ father be similarly combed and polished?
