Commercial Butterfly Locks Explained

Butterfly Locks have been around for hundreds of years and are used worldwide by women of all ages. There are many variations of the butterfly lock, but basically it consists of a pair of rings, rather than a key, that screw together and form a loop. This allows you to either open them from either the outside (usually with a flat headed screwdriver) or from the inside, through the use of a tiny little spring that’s located within the ring. There are more elaborate versions which have an inner mechanism that secures the ring onto the cylinder and prevents it from opening from the outside. These tend to be far less secure and are not used as often.

The butterfly locks are one of the more common security products in the UK. They are a very simple security product with the main feature being that you can safely and easily lock and unlock your front door without having to leave your front door key with anyone else. This is a great security product, but there are a number of problems associated with it. Firstly they are often too easy to break open; once the inner ring has been removed and the lock has been removed, you can simply push in the outer ring to gain access to the door – it’s surprisingly difficult to pull the lock apart without also removing the exterior ring. The other problem is that because the lock is so simple, even a child can sometimes gain access to it and cause enough of a problem that the lock will become unable to be repaired.

In order to prevent problems like these, butterfly locks need to be placed in a high risk area such as a commercial establishment. Because of their simplicity and inexpensiveness, these types of locks are frequently placed in high security areas such as bank vaults and police stations. Unfortunately, the risks involved make them unsuitable for use in a domestic application such as a home, and it is generally considered much safer to use a more modern, advanced locking system. One of the most common features that companies using this locking system will be able to buy themselves is an internal locking device which is hard-wired to the locks themselves. This ensures that should a key be forced from the outside, the locking system itself will try to prevent access – meaning that if you have experienced problems with previous locks, you should not fear buying a new one.
